The Green Peppeprcorns adds a new asian flavour to their menu! A few days ago I was one of the lucky bloggers and socialites invited to taste the new dishes being added to the Green Peppercorns menu. If you don't already know, The Green Peppercorn is a elegant eatery based in Morningside shopping centre. It fuses the different flavours from around the world, focusing on Africa and Asia via the Middle East.
With that being said , it is clear that the Green Peppercorn is extremely experimental with their menu and love to keep their food unique.Even the starters can't escape their experimental flare. The have a variety of options to choose from on their menu and their food is super colourful, flavourful and tasty! I assure you that you will not find the flavours or variety of ingredients anywhere else! Examples of starters are chilli-dusted squid with cardamom mayo; rooibos-smoked ostrich carpaccio maki style with mature parmesan, fresh rocket and toasted pine nuts; gorgonzola mousse with onion marmelade and beetroot chutney inside a bouche cup. I KNOW! UNUSUAL.. BUT DIVINE! Recently The Green Peppercorn decided to extend their menu with a new Asian addition - Dim Sum - and invited us to be the first to taste their new additions. We were served a variety of Dim Sum with fillings such as chicken, lamb, prawns and fish with different types of sauces - my favourite being the coriander sauce. For those who do not know what Dim Sum is - It a Chinese dish of small steamed or fried savoury dumplings containing various fillings. I usually tend to stay away from new dishes as I stick to my favourites but WOW am I glad i tried this! It has a mixture of flavours that just leave you wanting more and more! We were also served a new brand of wine which went well with the new cuisine. For dessert, we were BLESSED with Lindt Bon Bons. ( THE MOST HEAVENLY DESSERT I HAVE EVER TASTED) .. and I am not exaggerating when I say "blessed" because that is honestly how my palette felt. I definately loved my experience at the Green Peppercorn, It was different from what I normally like but I have learned that different can be good! or excellent in this case! Recently I found myself at this beautifully decorated eatery for a local fashion event. I cannot even describe how blown away I was by the unique décor , amazing service and mouth-watering food! We were served by super friendly staff who continuously served a variety of food to each and every table From salmon burgers to sweet potato fries for lunch and cinnamon balls and chocolate cake for dessert - I'm pretty sure I put on a few kg's from my time being there. I personally loved the potato dishes that were served.
This little restaurant is placed in a neat little setting in the middle of Newtown junction. I highly recommend getting out of your comfort zoned and taking a trip to Newtown Junction. They have some fabulous markets and stores! While you're there , be sure to stop by at The Potato Shed, especially if you love good food! I know I will definitely be going there soon! I would gladly give The Potato Shed a 5 star rating based on my enjoyable experience there. lots of love - Sara Johannesburg!
